What Is Your Passion?
We live in an incredible era. The Earth is 4.5 billion years old, yet here we are sharing the same moment in history as Diet Coke, iPhones—and yes, the Getting After It podcast. It’s wild to think about, but many of us (myself included) struggle to pinpoint what really makes us come alive. So, ask yourself: What excites you? And more importantly, what are you doing to chase that excitement?
One thing I’ve learned is that following what you love often leads to places and rewards you never saw coming. Let me give you an example from my own journey.
I first thought about starting the Getting After It podcast years before I finally launched it in 2022. I was an avid podcast listener and always felt it was a brilliant way to learn from—and connect with—others. Then one day, I decided it was time to stop daydreaming and see where this passion would lead.
The Birth of a Movement
Now, Getting After It isn’t just a podcast; it’s an entire movement focused on helping others unlock their full potential. I’ve built a website, started posting these blogs, launched a weekly newsletter to share what I’m learning in real time, and have even begun coaching people to reach their fitness goals. I’ve interviewed incredible individuals, each with a unique story that resonates with someone out there.
Looking back at everything I’ve built so far is gratifying, but truth be told, the biggest impact has been on me. Over the last 2.5 years, I’ve learned more than I did in college—because I’m actively seeking knowledge to bring the best possible content to listeners. I’m reading books, studying principles like discipline, and continuously challenging myself to “get after it” in my own life. As the saying goes, life is a journey, not a destination.
Here’s the thing: I haven’t made a single dime from any of this yet. So why do it? Well, that begs a question: Does money determine the value of everything you do? Yes, we all need money to take care of ourselves and our families, but it’s not the only metric of success. Still, I see so many people hold back on their passions because they fear the financial return may not be there.
So, think hard: Are you doing it for recognition and wealth, or for yourself?
On my podcast, one mantra I repeat is, “Everyone has greatness within them.” It saddens me to realize some people never tap into their potential because they’re too afraid to follow what lights them up inside. Entrepreneur and investor Naval Ravikant once said, “Building specific knowledge will feel like play to you but will look like work to others.” That’s how I see Getting After It. While others might consider it hard work, for me, it’s play—I run, study, and talk with people, all activities that excite me and keep me growing.
If You’re Feeling the Nudge, Go For It
If there’s a voice in your head nudging you toward your passion, listen to it. Don’t chase it for the money. Don’t chase it for the fame. Chase it for you. As you walk this path, you’ll learn more about yourself than you ever thought possible. You’ll figure out how to adapt, how to carve out time, and how to persevere when life gets tough. When those punches come your way, you’ll find a way to roll with them—and maybe even punch back.
Trust me: You’re capable of far more than you think. The first step is always the hardest, but if it’s something you love, the “perfect moment” never actually arrives. Listen to your gut, stop putting it off, and decide to get after it. Because once you do, there’s no limit to the growth and fulfillment you’ll find on the other side.
Do the thing, my friends.
